USA Battling For Respect Versus Ghana

by Blogger Alex Davis

The USA men's national team will open up their World Cup against Ghana (5 PM Central Time ESPN in Natal) for a chance to gain respect early in this World Cup. Not many people are predicting the USA to get out of the group of death. A win here can go a long way in determining if we do make it out. Teams that win their opening match of a World Cup have a 76% chance of making it out of the group. Even most Americans do not think that USA has any chance of making it out of the group stage. However, if the USA can win this match versus Ghana I fully expect the country will get behind this team like they did in the 2010 World Cup.

The USA has a enormous opportunity to stamp themselves as contenders in this group. For the hardcore soccer fans we know how important this match is for soccer in the United States. We have been searching for respect for the sport for a long time, and we have a chance to prove the doubters wrong by getting out of the group of death. A win against Ghana can catapult us to a deep run in this tournament.

There is no better feeling than seeing the teams walk out for their respective national anthems and to see the passion that is felt in that moment. Hopefully the average fan will see this team and national spirit during this moment! The only question is can the USA seize this massive moment in our history and get the country fully behind them again? A positive result is vital in this match. If the USA loses then the interest will wain for most supporters. I for one believe that this American team is ready to step up on the worlds biggest stage in the World Cup. As our motto of this tournament goes, I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN!
