The Go Pro Mountain Games in Vail, CO, has become the premier mountain sports festival on the planet! Every summer, literally thousands of athletes and spectators invade the small ski town of Vail, CO and brave the elements high in the Rocky Mountains for a chance to battle it out for some serious cash and bragging rights against the best in the world!
Whitewater SUP has become one of the fastest growing components at the Mountain Games for good reason! Both the downriver race and the SUP cross race have become one of the most contested whitewater SUP races on the planet and draw all the big names year after year. This year was no different and was bigger and better than ever. The field of athletes was huge and the competition was fierce!
Team Boardworks and Badfish was at the mountain games in full force and used our wide variety of our racing and whitewater specific boards to cause quite a stir at the competition! Our Boardworks and Badfish Team at the Mountain Games included: Slater Trout, Mike Tavares, Haley Mills, Bradley Hilton, Gabriel Gray, Miles Harvey, Mike Harvey, Sage Donnelly, Morgan Mason, & Brittany Parker, Spencer Lacy, and Ashley Bean! What a Crew!
The Downriver Sprint is a 4 mile sprint through class 3 rapids that happens to be some of the coldest water in Colorado at a mere 39 degrees. The race is a time trial start at 8,000 ft giving paddlers 30 second intervals to race against the clock. This years race was one of the tightest races in history at the games with a mere 10 seconds separating the top 5 Racers. Team Boardworks Pulled in some impressive results and hit the podium with Team Manager Mike Tavares a split second behind superstar Kai Lenny! Slater Trout(4th), Bradley Hilton(8th), and team Badfish paddler Spencer Lacy(5th) were all tight on the heels of the podium, coming in seconds behind. The women’s race was equally as impressive, with Haley Mills(4th) and Brittany Parker(7th) fighting it out with some of the best in the industry!
